Wine Red Is My Jam

I may have unconsciously made this wine red color the base of my spring palette. Here are some recent examples.

Dottir - Earrings
Lalunette - Necklace

I bought this embroidered, velvet skirt this winter at Bibelot's retirement sale for a very fair price and the vest was purchased recently at my new favorite consignment store, Encore. The vest is part of a set and came with a matching full midi skirt. They are silk and in pristine condition. I couldn't pass them up and I've worn both pieces quite a lot, though I'll probably never wear them together because it's too much fun to mix and match.

I wore this outfit all day and when I went out that night, I changed the pants out for a midi-length pencil skirt in (you guessed it) the same color. The skirt offered a little more warmth on a night when I knew I'd be chillin' outside and the sleek skirt elevated the look from day to night.

Zebra Cape for the Win

I bought this cape at an estate sale that I went to in early March. It is hand made and utterly fabulous.
That same night, I had plans to go to a 90s themed party sponsored by zubaz and I decided that there was no better time than the present to wear this zebra cape.
It was a perfect topper for the 90s outfit I already had picked out and it made me feel like a Spice Girl. The party invitation claimed that there was going to be a costume contest, but nobody handed me a trophy, plaque or roses, so they must have canceled that part of the evening

Irish You Were Here

Kelly green is my color and I love going all out for St Patrick's Day. This year, I paired this new to me sporty vintage t-shirt with my mother in-law's vintage Verndale letter jacket because of course they are the exact same color. The outfit wouldn't be complete without pants, so I wore some and they're orange. You might be familiar with these pants if you've been following my blog since the beginning. Today, they finally gave up the ghost. Let's have a moment of silence for my favorite cords.
Maybe I can patch them?

Deja Vu

This was my first attempt at styling these new plaid pants and I think I nailed it on the head. I've been drawn to this dark red/wine color lately and realized that so many of my recent acquisitions are this hue and that a lot of my current wardrobe compliments this color very well. The color that looks the best with it is forest green, which I wear a lot. There's also something about this combo that gives me a very slight feeling of Deja Vu. Anyone else feel it?

Blaze On!

Here's an outfit to brighten your day! I've been wearing a lot of this orange blazer this spring and I love it's versatility. Yes, this bright red/orange color is a staple in my wardrobe, but I'm constantly surprised at how many outfits it compliments. Orange jackets for the win!

How to Find Your Soulmate

I never knew that Kenny Rogers had a clothing line, but I'm really glad that he does. This shirt has a lot of extraneous snaps and it's amazing! Like, the front of the shirt has a pattern of just the outie half of the snap. I think that one day I will find a person wearing a Kenny Rogers shirt covered in innie snaps and we will become one.

Best. Outfit. Ever.

I'm gonna have to work this look into the rotation because boy did I look slick! I've been trying to style this yellow shell since I bought it this summer, but nothing was ever quite right. It's because this shade of yellow does nothing for my complexion. By breaking it up with a shirt collar and a statement necklace, I'm able to distract from how pale yellow makes me look ill and draw attention to how amazing this necklace is. Seriously, it's rad.

March is a Fickle Friend

Today was a beautiful day and I did my best to honor it with my outfit. Here's to no socks, light layers, and sunshiny yellow!
The shoes I'm wearing are exactly like a pair of moccasins I had when I was a little girl. The pair I'm wearing now are a few sizes larger and a few shades whiter, but they're pretty much the same.

proof that I was once a little girl and that I had tiny shoes
I think I rocked these mocs everyday for at least one summer

Remember yesterday? Well, today is nothing like that.
It's cold and it probably snowed or wintry mixed or something.
I made myself feel better by wearing this lovely wool jacket and a hat all day. I felt a bit like a 1970s reporter and that's fun.

I wore this beautiful turquoise necklace today and yesterday and when I did these drawings, I couldn't remember where it had come from. Once I remembered, I got sad because it came from a beautiful boutique that is no longer open. BNOX was located on the Mississippi river in Pepin, WI about a block down from the Harbor View Cafe. If you've never been to the the Harbor View, make it a point to get there some weekend this summer. Trust me, it's worth an hour+ drive down the river from the cities. Anyway, I used to meander over to this jewelry shop after dinner and ogle the things I couldn't afford, sometimes buy something I could and almost always pick up a new soap rock. Now all I do when I'm through with dinner is cry into my wine...I mean relax in an adirondack chair overlooking the Mississippi.

Sweater Weather

This sweater is the best thing to happen to my wardrobe in awhile. Seriously, I want 3 more just like it in case of emergencies...and that is hoarder mentality.

I don't normally gravitate towards 70s inspired outfits, but these pants were asking for it.

This is the second time I've sported this look and each time the reaction has been that I'm too put together...as if that's even a thing.

This dress is hounds tooth. In the past I've gone on and on about how I don't have the patience to draw hounds tooth. It's true and I apologize that I've denied you the full essence of this outfit.

Evergreen

This is the stripped down version of this outfit from January. I usually prefer versions like this, but in the frigid winter I tend to pile on the layers until I look like a bag lady. Good thing the temperature is rising.

I will not admit how many days I've spent in this outfit or some variation of it in the past two weeks. There's just something about it that I would compare to a warm cup of tea. It's mostly this sweater. I love everything about it. The muted green is lovely. It's wool, so it's soft and warm, but it's open on the sides allowing for ventilation. Seriously, guys. I can't get enough of this outfit. I'm even wearing this sweater over a dress as I type this sentence.

Sapphire

When I was a kid, I drew an illustration of what my super hero would be and her name was Sapphire. I don't remember what her powers were, but I'm pretty sure her costume resembled this outfit.

Fire!

Recently, I joined the Prairie Fire Lady Choir. I used to be in a similar kind of choir and really missed singing with a group of women. While I really loved my last choir, we wore white for all of our performances and that was not ideal. This choir, however, dresses in fire colors and that is what I'm all about. This outfit is what I wore for our photo shoot last Sunday.

Incorporating My New Duds

After my clothing exchange, I was so excited about all of my new clothes, that I immediately found them homes in my closet. Then I thought, these clothes have been incorporated into my closet, but I need to incorporate them into my daily wardrobe before I forget that I have them. I decided that everyday I will wear a different clothing exchange item or two and make them work with my current wardrobe. So, here it is, three weeks of "new" clothes.

You may have noticed that Sundays are missing. That's because Sunday (and sometimes Saturday) is my lazy day and I spend most of the day in my pajamas.

There are some items that haven't gotten worn yet because they're not of this season and there are some items that have been worn frequently. I think my favorites from the exchange are the western  sweater, the ombre chambray shirt and the skinny jeans. This is very surprising because these are items that have never been a part of my personal style. Again, this is why I endorse the clothing exchange.

Monthly Self Portraits: March

I don't usually dress up special for my monthly self portraits. However, this month, I combined my March self portrait with my Wet Paint Weekly Workout. The assignment was to create a colorful self portrait inspired by the artwork of Frida Kahlo. So, I put on this fun dress, a head scarf and a little lipstick and started drawing. Also, I normally only spend up to an hour on my monthly self portrait and my workout, but it's been awhile since I've used oil pastels and I forgot how much I love them. I got lost in this piece and the next thing I knew three hours had passed.  As much as I love using markers and paints, I really think that oil pastels are my medium. They just come so naturally to me.

Poncho!

Similar necklace - Artistry Blooming

Well, I did a terrible job of drawing this poncho. I just look like Gumby. Hopefully, I didn't look like this in real life because I really enjoy this poncho.
