I am so pumped up right now because I just acquired 37 articles of clothing and I spent $0!!
Last weekend, I made a trip to my favorite store, My Sister's Closet. I had a $25 gift certificate from Christmas that I thought I should use, so I did some browsing. Naturally, I found a ton of stuff that I liked and narrowed it down to about $80 worth of clothes. At the register, I inquired about my account (I consign there) and the clerk informed me that I had $50 credit! Yay, free clothes for me! Win!
This weekend, I hosted a clothing exchange. Let me tell you, if you haven't done this with your friends yet, DO IT. It's awesome! Like a lot of people, Spring brings out the purge-monster in me. I go through my entire house and get rid of the things that no longer bring me joy. After setting aside several bags of perfectly good clothes that just weren't right for me, I thought, why not have a clothing exchange? I know I have friends who are doing the exact same thing as I am right now and would love to get rid of their unwanted duds and get some fresh frocks in return. So, on Saturday, 6 of my friends came over with garbage bag after garbage bag of glorious clothes. It was a crazy fun free for all and I think that everyone went away happy. No one took home more than they brought. I donated what was left behind and my friends and I now have sweet new Spring wardrobes.
About my outfit:
This is why I think the clothing exchange is such a good idea. The fact that it's free makes people more willing to take risks or try something new with their fashion.
Today I am wearing a (mildly) high-low, cropped sweater paired with skinny jeans.
I am not trendy.
Usually, the more popular something is, the less likely it is that I will like it or participate.
I've never bought skinny jeans because I never liked the way they looked on me, they are a struggle to try on in a fitting room and they're wildly popular. I've always looked nice in straight leg/slight bootcut jeans and own a few pairs. Also, I hardly ever wear jeans, so when the skinny jean trend took the country by storm, I had no urge to go out and snag myself a pair.
However, after easily trying on these jeans that were already worn in, I thought, "Hey, these are really comfortable. I'm gonna give these a go." Then, when I showed my group of lady friends my find, they all oohed and ahhed. So I kept the skinny jeans.
Echh, high-low. I still don't like it. This sweater is so slight though, that it really doesn't count. I love the color and the loose knit is perfect for spring and fall. Also, the boxy shape, which would have initially turned me off, looks really great with skinny jeans.
Win win!
All week I'll be creating outfits with my new clothes and I'm really excited about it!

1) I have never owned a pair of skinny jeans.
2) Every time I see a high-low top in a store, I pass it by.
