Olive Leather Jacket

I scored this sweet jacket at Primrose Park almost for free with a 50% off sale and a gift certificate. I love being thrifty. The color is a beautiful shade of olive that works as a neutral and could go with almost any color. The leather is really soft and supple. I believe "buttery" is the term. The cut is vintage and futuristic at the same time. It's exquisite. So, I wore it as many times as I could before it got too hot to bear. The following are some examples of how I styled it.

I wore this to the America concert at the Medina Entertainment Center
Don't ask.

I love that olive goes with everything, like cobalt and fluorescent red. Colors are neat.
Also, I wrote on this drawing that I bought this dress at ModCloth. This is a lie. I got it at Poppy.

Combating Clouds

Here's another outfit from last week that I'm going to forgo giving the deets on.

Last Monday was a stupid, cloudy, rainy day so I wore bright yellow and pink to put myself in a better mood. I don't remember if it worked, but I do tend wear this dress on rainy days. There's just something about it.

Incorporating My New Duds

After my clothing exchange, I was so excited about all of my new clothes, that I immediately found them homes in my closet. Then I thought, these clothes have been incorporated into my closet, but I need to incorporate them into my daily wardrobe before I forget that I have them. I decided that everyday I will wear a different clothing exchange item or two and make them work with my current wardrobe. So, here it is, three weeks of "new" clothes.

You may have noticed that Sundays are missing. That's because Sunday (and sometimes Saturday) is my lazy day and I spend most of the day in my pajamas.

There are some items that haven't gotten worn yet because they're not of this season and there are some items that have been worn frequently. I think my favorites from the exchange are the western  sweater, the ombre chambray shirt and the skinny jeans. This is very surprising because these are items that have never been a part of my personal style. Again, this is why I endorse the clothing exchange.

Comfy Casual Cool

Similar necklace - BYMN

This is what I wore when all I wanted to wear were pajamas, but I needed to look presentable enough to grab a glass of wine with a friend.  Success!

Going for: Simplicity

Monday

This forever 21 top looks like a a bustier layered over a white shell, but it's all one piece that zips up in the back.  The shape of the pencil skirt says business, but the ponte fabric says comfort.  All day, I was told that I looked so fancy, but I was really wearing the simplest outfit I've worn in awhile.  This is my thing.  I make cheap fashion look expensive...at least I try.

Tuesday

I've been waiting for some time to wear this dress.  I bought it this summer, and the color is very summery, but it's long sleeved and polyester.  Too hot for July.  The print is tulips, which I always associate with Spring.  I was thinking that I would have to wait until April to wear it because it's not very autumnal.  Fortunately we had a couple cool days this week and I took my opportunity.  I'm really diggin' it.
Note to self: I bet it would look really good with some brown boots.

Wednesday

Here's another minimalist outfit that I enjoy.  This might be a new thing for me.  I like it.
This tunic is actually a dress that is too small for me.  I've been trying to figure out what to pair with it and I find that these slim columnist pants work pretty well.  And the shoes.

Thursday

Ok, so I'm thinking that I'll dress up as Janine from Ghostbusters for Halloween and wear exactly this.  I seriously love Annie Potts.

Also, this jumper is covered in a really intense olive, chartreuse, coral, turquoise, yellow, and black paisley print and I could not muster the gumption required to recreate it.  Please forgive.

Friday

This is the dress that ripped down the side the first time I wore it.  Today, one of the side seams of the lining came undone.  The top layer of this vintage dress is in really great condition, but the lining that attaches to the skirt is falling apart.  I'm gonna have to get that replaced, because I don't want to have to mend it every time I wear it.  Bummer.
Also, I take back what I said about drop waist dresses.  This one is working for me.

Tuesday
Boots

Labor day has passed, but I still want to wear white.  I know that's not really a rule anymore, but still, it sticks.  I think it has something to do with the final scene in Serial Mom.  It's funny the things you hold onto.  Anyhoo! Here's my fall interpretation of the white summer dress.  I think it's working, mainly because of the boots.  How amazing are these boots?! The answer is very.

Looking back at June

Monday
Similar earrings - Savers

These socks match this dress perfectly.  It's like they were meant to be.  Don'tcha just love that?

Tuesday

Loving this skirt this summer.  I discovered over the 4th of July how great it looks with my swimsuit top.  This is very exciting.  I love wearing long flowy skirts with my swimsuit.  It's a thing.

Wednesday

I like this look, but I feel like there's too much going on here.  I probably should have removed something before I left the house.

Thursday

This drawing is way cuter than this outfit actually was.  I've had this sweater forever and even though it's not terribly flattering on me, I can't get rid of it because it's just too awesome.

Friday
Similar earrings

I discovered that wearing a lot of green by my face when I have blonde hair makes my skin look awfully red.  Good to know.

Friday Night
Similar tights

This outfit is pretty great, if you ask me.  I always love to incorporate hats.

Saturday
Similar sunglasses - Target

There were a few pictures taken of me this day and in all of them, I have this fake smile on my face and my head is cocked just enough to look deranged.  I was definitely experiencing some emotional difficulty, but wasn't my outfit fantastic?

Celebrations in South Dakota (and Iowa)!

It's been way too cold lately to wear anything cute, but here are some outfits from a couple weeks ago to enjoy.

Monday

Ooh, I love this one.  I'm really into these pants.  They're the perfect length, width, rise for pulling off a bunch of outfits that I could never do before.  You'll be seeing a lot more of these pants in the future.

Tuesday

Here's a matronly outfit featuring a Dress Barn skirt. That's right, Dress Barn.  I actually really like this skirt, but it does have a librarian kind of thing going on.

Friday

And here they are again, those miracle pants.  I wore this outfit last week with different black pants and I like this version so much better.  Also, I've been rocking this shirt a lot.  I got it at this great little boutique called Stephanie's in St Paul.  I visit Stephanie's a lot, but have only ever purchased two items there.  I bought a pair of jeans with the help of a gift certificate and this blouse with the help of it being on sale.  Nothing in this store is inexpensive, but everything in this store is fabulous.

Saturday

I'm trying this summer dress out again this winter because I can't not wear it.  This time, I paired it with ivory instead of black.  Much more successful.

Sunday

I wore this to drive for 4 hours and then do some shoveling.  Super fun day!

Hard to style clothing problems solved, thanks to hoarding.

This week I inadvertently wore a bunch of clothing items that I've had forever, but never get worn because they're hard to style.  Luckily, some recent acquisitions and new ideas have made these pieces work.  I love solving these kinds of problems.

Monday

Here's a little winter get-up to try and convince myself that January's not so bad.  Oh, who am I kidding?  January's the worst!

Tuesday
Boots - Delia's

I feel like I've been  leaning towards men's wear this winter.  Wool, straight up!  And how great is this sweater?  It's so soft and warm and simple.

Wednesday
Earrings

I was really excited to buy these pants because I was looking for a slim pair of black dress pants and Express had them for half off.  Perfect, right?  Well, they're OK.  Because they're stretch, they tend to get saggy over the course of the day and the fit changes.  I guess I'm still looking.

Here, I'm pairing two hard to style items and I think it's working out pretty well.  The dress is sort of awkward because it's white with a summery crinoline underneath that suggests warm weather.  The fabric, however, is pretty substantial and heavy.  Today, I got crazy and cut the crinoline out of the dress.  I think it looks better, but the skirt now sticks to my tights.  I guess next time, I'll just have to wear it with a slip.  The sweater is also hard to style because of it's length and bulk.  I'm busty as it is, and this thing adds a lot of volume where I don't need it.  I really like it though.  It's like something straight out of Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.  That's a good thing, I genuinely like the fashion in that movie.  I think that putting the bright colors of the sweater on a blank canvas makes it look less loud and the dress' voluminous skirt balances out the bulky sweater.  One small victory.

This sweatshirt was a sweet garage sale find and the pants were purchased out of self inflicted pressure to buy something during a trip to Montreal.  They're fancy jeans that were only $20, but the rise is a little low, so I hardly ever wear them.

This shirt is extremely unique and I'm having a hard time finding anything online to compare it to.  It's basically a vintage vest and a moomoo re-purposed into a blouse.  It's also another top that I've always found hard to style.  Again, it's very voluminous and needs to be balanced out on the bottom.  I recently bought these pants at Anthropologie for a good price and they're a perfect match for this top.  My two loves, Dale's and Anthropologie joining forces to create this cute outfit!

My fancy face does not match this casual Sunday get-up.  A friend of mine had a groupon for facials at Blush Beauty Room.  I got my make up done by a stranger, which is not something I usually enjoy and I think it turned out really nice.  Yay for that!
